Terry Cherry, of the City of Poughkeepsie, was arrested and charged Friday for the Nov. 6, shooting of Jacquain Johnson, a 20-year-old man formerly from the Bronx, said City of Poughkeepsie Police Det. Lt. Matt Clark.

Johnson died after he was found the previous day lying in the middle of the street in the area of Mill and Garden streets with a gunshot wound to the chest, Clark said.

An autopsy conducted by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Johnson died as a result of a single gunshot wound, Clark said.

Cherry was arrested Wednesday for a parole violation and has been held at the Dutchess County Jail.
